๐Ÿš€Getting Started & Access

How do I get access?

TruthPrism is currently available to friends and family by invitation. You need a Prism Code to use the app.

If you don't have a Prism Code, you can purchase a Prism Pack on the TruthPrism website.

How do I enter my Prism Code?

  1. Open the app at app.truthprism.app
  2. Click Authentication to expand it
  3. Paste your Prism Code and click Save
  4. Click Test to confirm it's working

What is a Prism Pack?

A Prism Pack is a one-time purchase of a set number of fact-checks. There's no subscription โ€” buy when you need them, use them at your own pace. Your checks never expire.

How do I change my Prism Code?

Click Authentication to expand it, then click the small Change code link. This clears the saved code so you can enter a new one.

How many checks do I have left?

After each check, a banner shows how many checks remain on your current Prism Code. You can also click Test in the Authentication section to see your remaining checks.

๐Ÿ”Running a Check

Check This Page (extension only)

When using the Chrome or Edge extension, click Check This Page to analyze the article you're currently reading. The extension extracts the article text automatically.

Check Custom Text

Copy and paste article text directly into the Check Custom Text field and click Check This Text. This always works regardless of paywalls or site restrictions.

What is the character limit?

Articles are analyzed up to approximately 10,000 characters (~1,300 words). If an article is longer, only the first portion is analyzed and you'll see a truncation warning.

๐Ÿ’ก If you see a truncation warning on a short article, try copying just the article body text (without navigation and sidebars) and using Check Custom Text.

How long does a check take?

Most checks complete in 20โ€“40 seconds. The app shows live progress through three steps: summarizing the article, verifying each claim with Brave Search, and evaluating context. If a check seems stuck, wait up to 90 seconds before trying again.

๐Ÿ“ŠUnderstanding Your Results

What is the Factual Score?

The Factual Score (1โ€“10) rates the accuracy of verifiable factual claims โ€” dates, statistics, quotes, attributions, and assertions checked against real-time web sources via Brave Search.

ScoreMeaning
8โ€“10Mostly or fully accurate โ€” claims verified by credible sources
4โ€“7Mixed accuracy โ€” some claims accurate, some questionable
1โ€“3Mostly inaccurate โ€” significant false or unverified claims

What is the Context Score?

The Context Score (1โ€“10) rates whether the article gives you the full picture โ€” framing, omitted context, charged language, and one-sided presentation.

ScoreMeaning
8โ€“10Balanced and complete โ€” fair framing, no significant omissions
4โ€“7Notable omissions or framing issues that affect interpretation
1โ€“3Highly misleading framing or major context omitted
๐Ÿ’ก An article can have a high Factual Score but a low Context Score โ€” the facts are accurate but the framing is selective or misleading. Opinion pieces are expected to be one-sided and are scored accordingly.

What are the Claims Checked?

TruthPrism extracts 3โ€“6 of the most consequential claims from the article and verifies each one using real-time Brave Search results. Each claim gets a verdict:

What is the Fact Check Assessment?

A plain-language summary of the overall factual reliability of the article based on the claim verdicts.

What is Context & Framing?

An evaluation of how the article presents information โ€” whether it uses charged language, makes unsourced motivational claims, omits important counterarguments, or presents opinion as fact.

How do I save a report?

Click Save to download a text file with the full analysis, or click Full Report to open a formatted HTML report in a new tab which also has a save option.

โš ๏ธCommon Issues

My Prism Code isn't working

The check seems slow

TruthPrism verifies 3โ€“6 claims in parallel using Brave Search, then evaluates context and writes a narrative. This typically takes 20โ€“40 seconds. The live progress indicator shows which step is running.

The score seems wrong or surprising

TruthPrism uses AI which can make mistakes. Results should be a starting point for further research โ€” not a definitive verdict. Check the full report for the specific claims identified and sources consulted.

The article was truncated but it's short

TruthPrism tries to extract just the main article body, ignoring navigation and sidebars. Some sites use unusual structures that make this harder. Copy just the article text and use Check Custom Text to ensure the full article is analyzed.

The extension shows "Cannot connect"

Check that your Prism Code is saved correctly in the Authentication section. If the code is correct, the server may be temporarily restarting โ€” wait 30 seconds and try again.

๐Ÿ“ฑiPhone & iPad

Add TruthPrism to your home screen

  1. Open Safari and go to app.truthprism.app
  2. Tap the Share button (box with arrow pointing up)
  3. Scroll down and tap "Add to Home Screen"

๐Ÿ’ก Must use Safari โ€” Chrome on iPhone doesn't support Add to Home Screen.

Option A โ€” One-tap install

Tap the button below on your iPhone or iPad in Safari to install the shortcut automatically:

๐Ÿ“ฒ Add TruthPrism Shortcut
๐Ÿ’ก This button only works in Safari on iPhone or iPad โ€” it won't open from a desktop browser. After tapping, select "Add Shortcut" when prompted.

  1. Open Shortcuts โ†’ tap + โ†’ rename it TruthPrism
  2. Add action: Receive Input from Share Sheet โ†’ set input type to URLs
  3. Add action: Get URLs from Shortcut Input
  4. Add action: Text โ†’ type https://app.truthprism.app?url= โ†’ tap the variable icon โ†’ select URLs
  5. Add action: Open URLs
  6. Tap the shortcut name โ†’ enable Show in Share Sheet โ†’ tap Done
๐Ÿ’ก When reading any article in Safari, tap Share โ†’ TruthPrism and the app opens and automatically starts the fact-check.

How to use after installing

  1. Open any article in Safari (or any app with a Share button)
  2. Tap the Share button
  3. Scroll down and tap TruthPrism
  4. The app opens and automatically starts fact-checking โ€” no further taps needed
โš ๏ธ Paywalled articles (NYT, WSJ, Washington Post) may not load via URL. If you see an error, copy the article text and paste it into the Check Custom Text field instead.
